The list of countries banning tourists from bringing e-cigarettes into their territories is growing. Countries on the list now include Australia, Turkey, Singapore, Mexico, India, Brazil, Thailand, and the Maldives.

Maldivian officials have stated that travelers arriving with e-cigarettes can deposit them at a designated counter at the airport. They will receive a receipt and can collect their e-cigarettes upon departure.

The Maldives' import ban also applies to tobacco products, smoking accessories, hookahs, and flavored cigarettes. However, there is one exception: travelers aged 18 and over holding a tourist visa are allowed to bring in up to 200 cigarettes, 25 cigars, or 250 grams of tobacco.

Alongside the Maldives, Thailand has one of the strictest e-cigarette bans in the world. Violating this law can result in heavy fines and even prison sentences of up to five years.

In Australia, starting in March 2024, the importation of all types of e-cigarettes will be banned unless travelers obtain a special license.

While e-cigarettes have been shown to help some smokers quit, health officials in many countries are concerned that dessert-flavored e-cigarettes attract young people who have not yet started smoking.
